The cutting tool should be subjected to high pressure, high temperature, friction, shock and vibration. Therefore, the tool material has the following basic properties:
Hardness and abrasion resistance. The hardness of the tool material must be higher than the hardness of the workpiece material. The hardness of the tool material is higher, the wear-resisting performance is better.
Strength and toughness. The tool material should have high strength and toughness, which can easily withstand cutting force, shock and vibration to prevent the cutter from breaking.
Heat resistance. The tool material has a good heat resistance and can withstand high cutting temperature and good oxidation resistance.
Process performance and economy. The tool material should have good forging performance, heat treatment performance, welding performance. Grinding performance, and so on, and high price performance.
