MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Isaac Hayes, the pioneering singer, songwriter and musician whose relentless “Theme From Shaft” won Academy and Grammy awards, died Sunday, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said. He was 65.
A family member found Hayes unresponsive near a treadmill and he was pronounced dead about an hour later at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, according to the sheriff’s office. The cause of death was not immediately known.

Publicist Danica Smith said Bernie Mac died early Saturday at a hospital in the Chicago area of complications due to pneumonia.
The comedian suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body’s organs, but he had said the condition went into remission in 2005. He recently had been hospitalized and treated for pneumonia. – [SOURCE]
Damn. My pops died a few years back of pneumonia, he was 52. Really, I thought this nation had a handle on pneumonia well enough that people wouldn’t die from it. I just read that most cases of pneumonia can be handled between 2 and 4 weeks but the underlying health of a person is also a factor. There goes a legend and comic genius. First Death Anniversary
Damn that is terrible news. That’s a photo of Ledger as The Joker in the upcoming “Batman Begins” sequel, “The Dark Knight”. I can’t wait to see the movie because I’m sure he portrayed a great maniacal Joker. Reports are saying that he was found unresponsive and that there were pills present. He was in the process of filming, “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus”, due out in ‘09.
