This is an new blog series I have partnered up with Loud.com to present. It doesn’t focus on music or my career but rather social issues I feel that need to be addressed. As an artist, and someone who now has a voice I feel that it’s only right that I use it to speak on things that many can’t. So with that being said, the first topic I wanted to address is Gentrification. Mainly because in Harlem, New York (where I live) this is a serious issue and it hits home. So I present my first episode….
Props to Donny Goines for sending this through. Check it out people. Those of you from the 804, Richmond area will align this with Jackson Ward as explained on the accompanying imeem page by John Public. Good job Donny.
At some level, all urban dwellers have experienced this phenomenon. And to be honest, it’s not exclusionary. Anytime someone else has a little more than you and a gameplan, they have the option of taking what they want unless you stop them. Well, how does one do that? That person must up their game, as well, be it through voting, activism, protests, financial emancipation, partnerships or any combination thereof. It’s the essence of our economic and democratic systems and the backbone of our American ideals. Whatever we want to achieve, we have the opportunity and ability in a free market society.
Props to Donny Goines for sending this through earlier.

Skyzoo, Donny Goines & Sha Stimuli pictured above at the 2008 UMA Awards picking up their hardware for Best Lyricist, Buzz Factor and Best Male Artist, respectively.
The event went down on August 10th at the BB King Theater in NY.
nside, the event was hosted by Hot 97’s own Dee Vasquez and on the turntables DJ Jazz spun some of the hottest records of up and coming artists and nominees. There were live performances, two that stood out were from nominees Bang Bang Boogie which had Cuban Link with them, and Ru 1 who had Red Cafe and DJ Envy with them during their performances, the presenters ranged from C-Mil$ to Slick Watts, the winners ranged from Skyzoo to Focus to Donny Goines and there was even two up and coming designers who showed off their swim suit collections.
The entire night was a great feel for how diverse Hip-Hop is. The unity and respect, which were the theme of the night, were felt by everyone who was in attendance. Two of the biggest highlights of the night hands down were when Hip-Hop pioneers Slick Rick and Grandmaster Flash received awards. To have two of the originators of Hip-Hop in the building to support the underground movement was something words can’t describe. Over all the night was amazing. – [ SOURCE ]
