MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Isaac Hayes, the pioneering singer, songwriter and musician whose relentless “Theme From Shaft” won Academy and Grammy awards, died Sunday, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said. He was 65.
A family member found Hayes unresponsive near a treadmill and he was pronounced dead about an hour later at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, according to the sheriff’s office. The cause of death was not immediately known.

Publicist Danica Smith said Bernie Mac died early Saturday at a hospital in the Chicago area of complications due to pneumonia.
The comedian suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body’s organs, but he had said the condition went into remission in 2005. He recently had been hospitalized and treated for pneumonia. – [SOURCE]
Damn. My pops died a few years back of pneumonia, he was 52. Really, I thought this nation had a handle on pneumonia well enough that people wouldn’t die from it. I just read that most cases of pneumonia can be handled between 2 and 4 weeks but the underlying health of a person is also a factor. There goes a legend and comic genius. The world is a little less funny today as comedy lost one of its pioneering giants. George Carlin died of heart failure at the age of 71. Now, if you consider the pinnacle of comedy as BET’s Comic View then you probably don’t know this man, nor would you understand his genius. He, along with Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor and others pushed the envelope of what was considered decent in this country. He was one of the few comics who, in my opinion, stayed funny throughout his career. So R.I.P. Mr. Carlin, you probably didn’t care if you made it to heaven, but wherever you are people are laughing.
