For the record, I ride with Dame. All I’ve seen from this guy is loyalty. Also, the reason why I had little to say about Jay-Z’s American Gangster is because that’s all you’ve been reading, hearing, and seeing from all of the other blogs and pubs out there for the past couple of weeks. Plus it was weak. Whatev, s’all good.
The true-life story of Harlem’s notorious Nicky Barnes, a junkie turned multimillionaire drug-lord,
MR. UNTOUCHABLE takes its audience deep inside the heroin industry of the 1970s. The most powerful black drug kingpin in New York City history, Barnes came from humble beginnings to make himself and his comrades rich beyond their wildest dreams, ultimately reaching national infamy in 1977 when the New York Times put him on the front cover of their magazine with the headline “Mr. Untouchable.â€
Soon after, it all came crumbling down, and Barnes found himself serving a life sentence without parole. Feeling Betrayed by his wife and friends while sitting behind bars, Barnes wanted payback, and cooperated with law enforcement by naming names in exchange his freedom under witness protection. With the first hand testimony from “the black Godfather†himself, this documentary tells an epic story of business, excess, greed and revenge.
MR. UNTOUCHABLE is directed by Marc Levin. It is produced in association with Damon Dash Enterprises and Blowback Productions.
Magnolia Pictures will release the film in LA, NY and select cities on October 26.
