The 30 Best Little Brother Songs Part II

Hope y'all enjoyed the Part I joint as this one got you anticipating the next selections. Here's the Part II (bidges!) to the 30 Best Little Brother songs! Hit "Continue Reading!"

Previously: The 30 Best Little Brother Songs Part I

Yo, before I begin, after watching "The Wire" last night, you know what I realized? If Little Brother EVER decided to make their Broadway show, a la "Curtain Call" video, official, they could use the entire cast of the Wire, yo! Think about it! Idris Elba as Phonte, Wendell Pierce as Rapper Big Pooh, Lance Reddick as 9th Wonder, Domenick Lombardozzi as Joe Scudda, Frankie Faison as Big Dho (Isiah Whitlock, Jr. for the "sheeeeeeeeeee-it" parts), Wood Harris as Chaundon, man I could go on and on! Thought I had to share y'all with that. Now, on with the list.

    #20
    Little Brother
    "Passionflower"
    Separate But Equal: Drama Free
    Prod. 9th Wonder

This is what it's all about. Two emcees and one producer making joints “drama free,” like the special edition of the mixtape says. However, the message, ironically, are drama-filled as they rap about strained relationships and friends so-called. I wonder if Tay ever got so mad to the point that he used government names in a song. Either way, this Low Rawls/Curtis Mayfield sampled joint bangs and I think this definitely would’ve fitted well on The Listening.

    #19
    Little Brother (feat. Elzhi)
    "Hiding Place"
    The Minstrel Show
    Prod. 9th Wonder

"Where you gonna hiiiiiide?" Bobby Womack said it best. This track is equivalent of getting stomped in the middle of a NC alley in midnight. Originally, the late J Dilla was supposed to rhyme on this one (which explains why Pooh shouts out Dilla Dog). The verse of Elzhi was no filler though, 'cause he took the ball and slam dunked so destructively, the backboard shattered. 'Zhi killin' it. Pooh and Tay killin' it. But many wonder what it would've been like if Dilla was on this track. The tag-team of SV and LB would've been marvelah-ah-ahous.

    #18
    Little Brother
    "ExtraHard"
    Getback
    Prod. Mr. Porter

Little Brother and Mista Porter strikes once again. A joint so hard, so provocative, the sales of Babajeux cologne went straight to the roof! On the real though, Tay and Pooh shows why they the new TPMD and Pooh Ball & Tay J.G., they comin out extra hard and they're strictly about their business. And the sample in the background does NOT say "Where are my bitches?," but most of y'all be saingin' along to it anyway.
    "They're all are goooooooone! Goooooone!"

    #17
    Little Brother
    "Good Clothes"
    Getback
    Prod. Illmind

I'll be the first to tell you that when this song came out, I really ain't had it all when it came to the latest clothing. But thanks to song like these, I wear what I have like it's fresh until it goes out of style. And when it goes out of style, I make it vintage. This joint is dedicated to folks, like myself, who makes the best of whatever they have. Because, let's face it, some of the folks who rock the latest clothing be rockin' it all on the wrong side. Tay himself said it best on his MySpace (R.I.P.) blog: "The nigga would get his parents to cop him the new Jordans, but he'd fuck it up by lacin them joints up so tight that the sides would touch, and be rockin them shits with some tapered leg corduroy pants."

    #16
    Little Brother
"Light it Up/Light it Up (Nicolay Remix)"
    The Listening/City Lights Vol. 1.5
    Prod. 9th Wonder/Nicolay

This track is so dope, I have to put the original and remix version on this list. This track brings the opposite effect of Catch 22, instead of picking your own poison; you pick your own remedies. The only poison is the wack music you’ve been forced to listen to during the day and this clears all symptoms with no side effects.

    #15
    Little Brother
    "Carolina Agents"
    2K6 Soundtrack
    Prod. 9th Wonder

You ever met folks who dismiss Little Brother as boring hip-hop because they ain't killas and they ain't got swag? Or the type of folks who dismiss Little Brother because they aren't heard of in the radio standpoint, so they must be wack, right? WRONG! All I have to do is blast this track to show how much of a real deal LB is. The beat is extra funky and the lyrics are on point enough to shank your eardrums. This song should've been on The Minstrel Show IMO. But 2K6 Soundtrack is arguably the best soundtrack of the 2K series.

    #14
Little Brother (feat. Big Daddy Kane)
    "Welcome to Durham"
    The Chittlin' Circuit Mixtape
    Prod. 9th Wonder

Before this song, I never knew that rap’s prime minister took a move from NY to NC. Also, prior to LB and this track, I never really heard much about the Bull city of Durham. But the biggest highlight of this song, is that Pooh and Tay was able to rock in the same spotlight as the legendary BDK! Trust when I say that there weren't – no – half – steppin' on this joint. They proved that in the City of Medicine, them Durham niggas is SICK!

    #13
    Little Brother (feat. BlackStar)
    "Let it Go (BlackStar Remix)"
    And Justus for All
    Prod. 9th Wonder

Little Brother rockin' with the original Little Brothers (see "Hurricane" Soundtrack). I don't care if the original version had only Mos Def in it, the BlackStar remix added the missing puzzle to the track. All four of them, along with the beat from 9th Wonderful, shows what it's like for folks to let it go and enjoy the wack emcees TKO.

    #12
    Little Brother
    "Give it to Ya"
    The Chittlin' Circuit Mixtape
    Prod. Pete Rock

AHHH-OWWWW!!! You can always tell that when Pete Rock cooked up a beat for Little Brother, it was a dream coming true. I bet Pete Rock was #1 on their list of dream collaborators. LB and Rock took it right back to the Mecca and there's nothing that anyone can say it's otherwise.

    #11
    Little Brother
    "Whatever You Say"
    The Listening
    Prod. 9th Wonder

On the real, this song is what got me to be such big fans of Little Brother: head-nodding beats and humorous rhymes (or lack of rhymes) that you would swear they were influenced by pimpish uncles. Pimpin’ Pooh and Mackalonious Tiggalonious had this track by its tracks and made a jam out of it. I still crack up whenever I heard he Tay-rick B. and Poohkim ad-libs at the end like I did when I first heard it. Bravo!
