As we all know hip-hop, or better yet, music is a type of art. But how can one turn music INTO art? Ask Denver's own Signtologist. He keeps it street, literally. Swiping street signs for a living, Signtologist takes advantage of oil paintings to create spectacular portraits of many musicians and legendary artists over traffic signs. The picture you see above doesn't show nearly half of his works, not even a quarter. If I dare show you all of the paintings Signtologists has ever done, this entire site will freeze quicker than your roller rink glowsticks (remember dat?). Thanks to Signtologist for taking time to talk with us. Hopefully, it'll give you good insight on the new meaning of "street art."
1. First of all, how did you get the idea of using street signs as your canvas?
Total accident, ran outta canvas on a school project.
Who was the first celebrity or artist you painted a street portrait of?
The group Jedi MInd Tricks.
3. Seeing that you got your name from the Roots, how big is the influence of hip-hop when it comes to your art?
It plays a huge role in my work.
4. When creating art for your artists, do you play their music while doing so?
Sometimes, but not always.
5. After seeing pictures of you giving your art to numerous of artists, any story, in particular, that has the proudest moment?
Rakim requesting to meet with me in the back alley of a venue after just rocking a show.

Sure, I am open to growth and would love to make my work available to a larger market.
7. Do you often tour and go to art shows to display your art to those who aren't familiar with your works?
I try to get my art up in shows in and outta Colorado as much as possible.
8. Can you tell us who you're painting a portrait of now...or is that top secret?
I need to do a self portrait soon.
9. Do you have a biggest dream for your future? Does it involve having every street signs in the world with your portraits?
Ha ha, that would be a pretty cool dream, for sure. I would like to just leave my mark on hip hop and that would be good enough for me.
10. Last but not least, tell us your website and where we can see your signs of wonder.
