I disagree mostly. I was just talking to Woody the other day and I was telling him the best thing that ever happened to hip-hop was free music / mixtapes / the innanet etc.
And I was reading over on Miss L's, Chaundon's rant. He's pretty much saying the same thing that David Banner was talking about.
I believe it has leveled the playing field. It keeps wack albums in check. If your album is bomb, you'll make your paper. But all of that getting over for one or 2 tracks is dead gone buried and never to resurrect.
Now I don't agree with what you put your hard earned money in should be stolen / you never see a dime. And I do believe some work has to be paid for.
I should know, I'm a contracted web developer. But you can't MAKE people buy your work. Rappers got a lot of competition DAILY. Just as I do. So if I want money, I either got to grind, make a deal or do something else. If somebody doesn't want to contract me for their site, then so be it. But I have a choice...either do it for free, don't do it, or find another avenue. So that $5 and $10 on an album is really an investment. And these aren't excuses...but you just can't chastise listeners into buying what they don't want to buy, fan or otherwise.
Nevertheless, talking about it is one thing...but where is the middle ground?
BTW...I'm still waiting on The Wonder Years. Maybe I'll buy that.
