NBC News Series - African American Women: Where They Stand Part 3

In part 3 of 5 of NBC News’ African American Women, Rehema Ellis takes a look at the relationships among black men and women [ NBC Nightly News ]
I can only speak for myself, I’ve never been afraid of an educated woman.
“That is my s**t right there!” — Katt Williams
The ladies did make a point in the video stating that there are men out there who are afraid of an educated black woman. I agree. That can be attributed to ego. But in my experience, I’ve seen some women out there on the other end of the spectrum. I’ve seen (more often than not) where an educated black woman would act like she’s too good for the next man. And then blame the man for not wanting to deal with a “strong black woman”.
Hey, I’m just calling it like I see it. And this isn’t about black men. So I’ll leave it right there unless you want to take it there. I’m an open-minded fella, and I do believe that there is push and pull on both ends. But when it comes to societal matters, I do believe that the short end of the stick is definitely in the black man’s hands. Nevertheless, that’s not a complaint, just another hurdle one must jump.

i believe that educated black women turn their nose up at black men without a college degree. I know i’m definately biased in this subject but it be the smart sisters that won’t deal with the brothers…i’m glad i got a woman already.

yeah sisters are generally quick to turn up their noses at a brotha that’s not educated but really, can you blame them? thats in the same vein as if superstar high school basketball player got drafted right outta high school, you gotta be a lot more selective in who you choose to be intimate with.
on the flip side…how often have we seen educated brothas with a white woman on they arms?
and it is an ego thing with guys who are intimidated by an intelligent woman who will more than likely make more money than them. as much of a “free society” as we are we still clutch the traditional values of the man being the breadwinner and the woman being the housewife.
and im not even going to address what theyre going to have to say in hip hops role in this matter. womp womp

Well I guess I will speak on behalf of educated black women. We do not turn up our noses to black men, we just simply would like to have someone who is on our level.A black man does not need to have a degree to be educated but he can educate himself by other means. No woman has a black man’s back like a black woman.I feel black men turn to white women and woman of the opposite persuasion quite simply because they are easier to get and somehow they feel they understand you. I think it says a lot about a black mans character if he is intimidated by a black woman. And let me just end this by saying that there is no man like a black man because you guys are the best but you should really start giving the sisters a lot more attention and respect. And for the sisters, its no secret there isn’t anything better than a black woman because we are the best but we really need to stop giving our brothers a hard time and be a lot more supportive and respectful and not only on selective times. We really need to stick together because together we can do marvelous things. Ok I’m done

I see so many people still arguing about mixed relationships and so forth. I don’t care what anyone say’s, this world will never, ever be at one with each other no matter what the race is. It’s sad because Martin Luther King Jr. lost his life for his love of peace and wanting people of all race’s to accept each other for who they really are. It was a big loss and shame when he died. It just bring’s so much disgust and shame when I hear black women say from the above quote “There isn’t anything better than a black woman because we are the best!” That was from cutie pie. I want to know why it is that black’s want to be treated fairly, equally and so forth - Why is it that there are so many people out there that make ignorant comment’s like this. Yes, we are all human’s coming down to it all. Yes, we all are made differently such as the color of our skin, the texture of our hair and even different race’s are more suceptible to different disease’s such as sickle cell anemia and so forth. I am white and I grew up in the project’s in Denver. I was the minority there so I do truly understand what alot of people who grow up without alot of chance’s to make there way in life. The first comment up there by an educated black man named “Sleaze” said “a black woman will definetly turn their nose up at a black man without a degree!” For that matter so will a white woman if she is interest in any man of any color. I know I would want something or someone on my own level or have the same interest’s and so on in life. Who don’t. Why would anyone want to be with anyone if they didn’t share some common ground such as education, family matter’s,religion etc.. And that is just touching some of the big thing’s that a relationship need’s to thrive on. So, give me some idea’s on why any race is better or worse than each other. No hard feeling’s as if anyone would care about that but I am tired of being ignorant about these issue’s and tired of other’s being just ignorant! I mean saying all of these comment’s before even knowing how people feel.I have a friend who is black that I take her daughter home from school everyday and have for the past 3 year’s. She is alway’s talking about black folk’s using the “N” word. I myself would never ever dare to use it. I myself get 0ffended and hurt when she talks about her own race that way. Why can black’s say the”N”word and white’s, mexican’s and so forth stomped in the ground for it. Please give me some understanding on this. Thank’s in advance folk’s for your comment’s and understanding and of course your time cause a person’s time is priceless and your folk’s time and knowledge is well appreciated if I could get some honest opinion’s.
